Fencing That Works as Hard as the Operations It Serves

Agricultural fencing in the Central Valley is not a cosmetic decision. It is infrastructure — and like all infrastructure, it either holds up under real working conditions or it does not. A post set too shallow fails when cattle lean against it. A wire strung without proper bracing at corners and gates loses tension within a season. A corral panel that is the wrong gauge bends the first time a horse hits it.

A3 Fencing has installed fencing across Kern County’s agricultural operations — dairies, cattle ranches, horse properties, hog facilities, row crop perimeters, and mixed-operation farms. We understand the specific demands each type of operation puts on a fence, and we build to those demands rather than to the minimum that will pass an inspection.

We also understand that agricultural operations run on schedules that do not wait for contractors. We show up when we say we will, work efficiently, and do not leave a project dragging for weeks while your operation has to work around an incomplete fence line.

The Right Fence for Your Operation

Different agricultural operations have different fencing requirements. The wrong material or specification wastes money and causes problems — the right choice lasts for decades and performs without ongoing maintenance headaches. Use this as a starting point; we will refine the recommendation during the site visit.

Horses & Equestrian

No-climb woven wire or wooden board fencing. Smooth wire top rail. No barbed wire. Visibility matters for horse safety.

Cattle & Beef Operations

Barbed wire perimeter, woven wire with barb top, or pipe fencing for working corrals and pens. Post spacing and bracing critical for cattle pressure.

Dairies & Feedlots

Heavy-gauge pipe or sucker rod for pens, lanes, and corrals. Needs to handle constant animal pressure, equipment contact, and manure exposure.

Row Crops & Orchards

Perimeter fencing for trespass and wildlife exclusion. Barbed wire or woven wire at appropriate heights depending on the wildlife pressure in your area.

Game & Wildlife Properties

High-fence game enclosures for deer, exotic species, and high-fence hunting operations. Mesh height and configuration selected for the species being contained.

Large Rural Parcels

Long-run perimeter fencing for large acreage. Used pipe and sucker rod is often the most durable and cost-effective option at scale — we can source and install.

Agricultural & Livestock Fencing Services

Every type of agricultural fencing we install, from perimeter wire to working corrals to specialized livestock systems.

Horse Fencing

No-climb woven wire, wooden board, and combination systems for horse properties. Installed without barbed wire or sharp hardware edges that can injure horses that get too close to the fence line.

Barbed Wire Fencing

Perimeter and boundary barbed wire for cattle operations, large rural parcels, and agricultural land. We build proper corner and brace assemblies that maintain tension over the long run — not the undersized bracing that collapses within a few years.

Used Pipe & Sucker Rod

Oilfield pipe and sucker rod fencing for dairies, feedlots, and large ranch perimeters. Heavier and more durable than standard agricultural fencing at a cost-effective price per foot for high-use areas and large acreage.

Livestock Panels & Gates

Pre-fabricated livestock panels and heavy-duty working gates for handling facilities, sorting pens, and working areas. We source quality panels and install them correctly — properly anchored and sized for the animals being handled.

Common questions from Central Valley farmers, ranchers, and agricultural property owners.

How deep should fence posts be set on agricultural land?

Post depth depends on the soil type, the fence height, and the animal pressure the fence will face. As a general rule, posts should be set at a minimum of one-third of their total length in the ground — but clay soils, rocky ground, and high-pressure livestock applications often require deeper installation and larger post diameter than the minimums. We assess the soil conditions on your property and spec post depth accordingly.

What is the difference between barbed wire and high-tensile wire?

Barbed wire is the traditional choice for cattle perimeters — it is widely available, familiar to work with, and effective. High-tensile smooth wire is stronger per strand, holds tension better over long runs, and requires fewer posts per span — making it more economical for large perimeter installations. The right choice depends on the animals being contained, the terrain, and your cost priorities. We discuss both options during the consultation.

Can you build a corral to fit my operation’s specific layout?

Yes. We work from your layout if you have one, or we help you think through the design during the site visit. A well-designed corral saves time and frustration every day of operation — chute placement, gate swing direction, pen sizing, and lane widths all affect how the facility actually works. We build corrals that function the way working operations require.

How much does agricultural fencing cost per foot?

Agricultural fencing costs vary significantly by material, terrain, post spacing, and scale. Barbed wire perimeter fencing on flat, accessible valley floor land is among the most cost-effective fencing available. Corrals, pipe fencing, and specialized livestock systems involve more material and labor. We provide detailed, no-obligation estimates for every project — cost per foot is not meaningful without knowing the specifics of the job.

Do you work on large acreage perimeter projects?

Yes. Large perimeter projects — hundreds or thousands of linear feet — are well within our scope. We have the equipment and crew to work efficiently at agricultural scale. For very large projects, we can phase the work to fit your schedule or budget cycle. Contact us to discuss the scope and we will assess whether the project is a good fit.
