Fencing That Keeps Your Horses Safe and Your Property Secure
A poorly built horse fence is not just an inconvenience — it is a danger. Horses will lean on, push against, and test a fence constantly. Weak posts, inadequate spacing, or the wrong materials can result in injury to your animals and costly damage to your property.
At A3 Fencing, we understand the specific demands of horse containment. We install fencing systems chosen for their strength, visibility, and safety — so your horses stay where they belong and you have real peace of mind.
From traditional pipe rail and wood board fencing to high-tensile and no-climb wire options, we work with you to select the right system for your horses, your terrain, and your budget. Every post is set deep and every rail is secured to handle the pressure horses put on a fence day after day.
Built for the Strength and Safety Horses Demand
The right horse fence does more than mark a boundary — it protects your animals, your neighbors, and your investment. Here is what sets our installations apart.
Horse-Safe Materials
We use materials specifically suited to equine containment — no sharp edges, no hazardous gaps, and no components that can injure a horse that tests the fence.
Deep-Set Posts
Every post is set well below the frost line and properly anchored so the fence holds firm even when a horse leans, rubs, or pushes against it consistently.
High Visibility
Horses have wide-angle vision but can struggle to see thin wire. We prioritize high-visibility fencing options that horses can clearly see and respect.
Correct Rail Height and Spacing
We follow industry best practices for rail height and spacing to prevent horses from getting legs or heads caught — a critical safety consideration that cheaper installations often overlook.
Multiple System Options
Pipe rail, wood board, high-tensile wire, no-climb wire, or combination systems — we help you select the right solution based on your horses, property size, and budget.
Terrain-Matched Installation
Central Valley properties vary widely — from flat pastureland to rocky hillside terrain. We adapt our installation approach to your specific land so the fence performs correctly regardless of grade or soil conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions.
Have a question about horse fencing? We have answered the most common ones below. If you do not see yours, reach out and we will be happy to help.
What type of fencing is safest for horses?
Pipe rail, wood board, and no-climb wire are among the safest options for horses. The key is avoiding sharp edges, small gaps where hooves or legs can get caught, and materials that splinter or break under pressure. We help you choose the right system for your specific horses and situation.
How tall should a horse fence be?
For most horses, a minimum height of 54 to 60 inches is recommended. Taller horses, stallions, or horses that are prone to jumping may require fencing up to 72 inches. We assess your animals and recommend the appropriate height during the consultation.
Can I use barbed wire for horse fencing?
Barbed wire is strongly discouraged for horse pastures. Horses can panic and run into fencing, and barbed wire causes severe lacerations in those situations. For horse containment we recommend smooth rail, board, or appropriate wire options that are much safer for equines.
How many rails do I need for a horse fence?
Typically three to four rails are used for horse fencing, depending on the height and the horses being contained. The spacing between rails is just as important as the number — gaps should be small enough to prevent a horse from getting a leg through but large enough to avoid creating a trap.
Do you install horse fence gates?
Yes. Proper gate placement and construction is a critical part of any horse fencing project. We install heavy-duty gates sized for easy horse handling and equipment access, with latches that are secure but operable with one hand.
Do I need a permit for horse fencing?
Agricultural fencing permits vary by county and municipality. In many unincorporated areas of Kern County, ag fencing does not require a permit, but HOA rules or local ordinances may apply. We will help you navigate the requirements during your consultation.
